Cabin Reservations

When making a reservation, please consider the following information:

• Reservations are available from April to October, Thursday through Sunday.
• There is a 2-night minimum stay and 3-night maximum.
• Cabins sleep 5-6 people (6 if two people share a bed).
• Reservations must be made at least 3 days in advance.
• Only people 21 years and older can make a reservation.
• Payment is expected in full upon reservation.
• Cabins are $65 per night.
• Check-in starts at 2:00 pm, check-out by 10:00 am.
• Cancellations will be accepted with full refund up to 3 days before arrival. Cancellations within 3 days of arrival will result in a 20% fee from total reservation cost.

Visitors shall abide by the Sanctuary’s Rules & Regulations and the code of conduct and guidelines defined for all users for all facilities, including the JBERD Field Station.

Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary provides an extraordinary opportunity for field research in a wide range of fields. The Sanctuary covers nearly 1,800 acres and offers a large diversity of habitats including tidal freshwater marshes, forested wetlands, created wetlands, upland forests in different stages of development, managed pollinator meadows, pine and sand barrens, streams, and vernal pools. The Sanctuary is also uniquely prized as a valuable cultural resource with evidence of over 13,000 years of human habitation on-site. 

For over 40 years, the Sanctuary has led research, long-term monitoring, and citizen science projects (some running for more than 30 years). This combined with its inclusion in the Maryland National Estuarine Research Reserve system, the Sanctuary has a breadth of valuable data and baseline information that can support new research studies. Finally, with an active core of citizen scientists and volunteers, the Sanctuary may also be able to offer field research assistance if requested.

Planning to Do Research at Jug Bay

Researchers interested in exploring Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary as a scientific study site must follow these guidelines:

• Fill out a reservation research request form. Please note that the submission of this request does not guarantee approval for research access.
• Conduct a pilot field site visit. While not required, this step is recommended to become familiar with the research site and facilities before beginning any major field sampling effort.
• Scheduling field visits ahead of time (especially for overnight stays requiring the use of a cabin) is recommended to ensure space availability.
• Cabins sleep 5-6 people (6 if two people share a bed).
• Fees for cabin rentals are due upon reservation.
• Cancellations will be accepted with full refund up to 3 days before arrival. Cancellations within 3 days of arrival will result in a 20% fee from total reservation cost.
• It is the responsibility of the researcher to secure licenses, permits, or other documents required by law in connection with conducting research or specimen collection within Sanctuary grounds. Copies shall be provided to the Sanctuary Superintendent.
• Research activities shall be done in a way to minimize any negative impacts to the environment and wildlife, and to avoid any conflicts with Sanctuary’s mission and goals.
• Researchers shall respect any partial or full property, habitat, and/or trail closures established by the Sanctuary for the management and protection of habitats and/or wildlife (e.g., managed deer hunts, meadow burns, eagle nesting sites, etc.) In these cases, the Sanctuary shall communicate the locations and dates to avoid conflicts and ensure safety.

Researchers shall abide by the Sanctuary’s Rules & Regulations and the code of conduct and guidelines defined for all users for all facilities, including the JBERD Field Station.

Planning to Use Jug Bay as an Outdoor Classroom

Educators interested in using Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary as a site for hands-on teaching and learning experiences must follow these guidelines:

• Fill out a reservation education program request form. Please note that the submission of this request does not guarantee program approval.
• Conduct a pilot field site visit. While not required, this step is recommended to become familiar with the site and facilities before beginning a program.
• Scheduling education programs ahead of time (especially for overnight stays requiring the use of a cabin) is recommended to ensure space availability.
• Fees for cabin rentals are due upon reservation.
• Cancellations will be accepted with full refund up to 3 days before arrival. Cancellations within 3 days of arrival will result in a 20% fee from total reservation cost.
• Education programs shall take place within the limits of the Sanctuary’s trail system. Exceptions can be made on a case by case basis and shall require approval by the Sanctuary Superintendent.
• Educators shall respect any partial or full property, habitat, and/or trail closures established by the Sanctuary for the management and protection of habitats and/or wildlife (e.g., managed deer hunts, meadow burns, eagle nesting sites, etc.) In these cases, the Sanctuary shall communicate the locations and dates to avoid conflicts and ensure safety.
