Though nature seems to be hiding in winter, there are lots of opportunities to have fun outdoors.  Bundle up,  explore, and learn more about plants and animals, while enjoying one of our January programs! 

Insects in Winter
Saturday, Jan 14; 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Fee: $10/person
Entomologist Dr. Ben Hollister and Sanctuary naturalist Lindsay Hollister will present information about the lifecycles of local insects, then head outdoors through the different habitats of the Sanctuary to investigate insects in winter. Walk Around Galloway Creek
Saturday, Jan 21; 1:00 - 4:00 pm
Get a different perspective on one of the three tributary streams flowing through the Sanctuary.  We'll take a largely off-trail hike around the Galloway Creek valley, visiting the largest tree on the Sanctuary along the way.  Sturdy footwear recommended.  Meet at the Plummer House. Identifying Trees in Winter
Saturday, Jan 28; 1:00 - 3:30 pm
All trees do not look alike in winter! Join Sanctuary naturalist Elaine Friebele to learn the basics of plant identification using winter keys and field guides, then take a hike to practice your knowledge in the field. This program is designed for those with little or no experience and will focus on twigs, buds, and bark. For adults and teens. Call 410 741-9330 to register.
