Fish Survey

Checking the seine haul

Many species of fish--including migratory fish and year-round residents--use the wetlands at Jug Bay for spawning, feeding, and shelter. Volunteers monitor both the tidal Patuxent River and non-tidal creeks, and a beaver pond documenting the differences in fish species diversity and abundance. Our fish survey documents seasonal and annual changes in fish populations in the freshwater tidal region of the Patuxent River.

If you are willing to hike, swim, wade in waist-high water, and handle fish, join us for our regular fish surveys.

Research Activity:
Schedule: Sampling occurs monthly from April through October on weekends. Each Survey lasts about four hours.
