So that the field trip can be safe and enjoyable:
Stay with your group
Walk quietly. Seeing and hearing wildlife is more likely when noise is kept to a minimum.
Stay on trails. Traveling off the trails increases erosion and can damage fragile wildflowers.
Collecting of flowers, nuts, wildlife, etc. is NOT allowed.
Do NOT remove or otherwise disturb colored research flags, metal tree tags or marker poles.
Teachers and chaperones are responsible for children at lunch time and when exploring the Exhibit Room. Please ensure that all students obey the Sanctuary rules.
Adult Chaperones
: Thank you very much for taking the time to accompany the school to Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary. Your interest and enthusiasm can add tremendously to the experience the children have at the Sanctuary.
- Be a role model.
- Demonstrate active listening skills.
- Refrain from talking with other chaperones during activities.
- Please be an active participant in the day’s activities. Your involvement illustrates the importance of what we are doing.
- Please do NOT answer the questions asked to the children by the naturalists (encouragement and hints are okay though!)
- Help maintain discipline. Sometimes a student’s energy level can be too high. You can help by keeping attention focused on the activities at hand.
- Please turn off all cell phones and pagers.
Agenda
- you may share this with children, but see caveats under "Expectations"
Expectations - remind students that nature does not always cooperate.
- We make no promises that we will see animals.
- What has been done in the past will not necessarily be what happens this trip.
- Encourage them to make observations and to enjoy what activities and experiences are part of their special day at Jug Bay.
- Students and adults will be active participants in all activities.
- Programs will be held OUTDOORS, rain or shine! NO UMBRELLAS please.
- Questions about the subjects are encouraged.
- We will be able to hold and touch many of our findings. Holding animals will be at the discretion of the leaders.
